2026 Santa Cruz Tallboy 6 Review: Fully Reinvented But Still a Joy to Ride! (2026)

The 2026 Santa Cruz Tallboy is a bike that has been fully reinvented, but remains a joy to ride. It's a short-travel ripper that suits a certain type of rider, and the 6th iteration of the platform features a completely new silhouette. The move away from the typical VPP suspension layout is sure to generate debate, but there's a lot more to this bike than that one detail.

The Tallboy 6 has more travel, slightly more stable geometry, and a lighter overall package, all while retaining the idiosyncratic nature of the Tallboy. The frame is as simple and straightforward as ever, with a high/low flip chip, clean cable routing, and a Glovebox in-frame storage that's easier to use than ever. The new set of mounts on the toptube allows for a quick-access tool or additional storage, and the chainslap protection is similar to other recent frames from the California brand.

The CC-level frame is a higher end and lighter carbon layup, with a more complex layup schedule that achieves the same level of stiffness in the frame, but results in about 300 grams of weight savings when compared to the previous Tallboy CC frame. The cable routing around the bottom bracket area is very well sorted, with a molded loop that keeps the cables from rattling against anything as they pass from tube to tube.

The suspension design of the Tallboy 6 is a refinement of the previous model, with more travel, more consistency, and improved performance up and down the hill. The move from 120mm to 130mm rear travel isn't drastic, but the lower leverage rate does yield the feeling that you're getting more out of each millimeter of travel. Pumping is still very productive, the platform is predictable through the stroke, and the bike feels composed on rougher descents.

The Tallboy 6 is a bike that has been fully reinvented, but remains a joy to ride. It's a short-travel ripper that suits a certain type of rider, and the 6th iteration of the platform features a completely new silhouette. The move away from the typical VPP suspension layout is sure to generate debate, but there's a lot more to this bike than that one detail.
